Taking a Scheduled Live Exam with SEB

Starting Exam and Installing the Safe Exam Browser

Once your exam has been scheduled, you can launch your exam at the start time by navigating to your exam dashboard.

1. Click on the "Start Exam" button

2. Download & Install the Safe Exam Browser (SEB) from this screen.

3. Click on "Start Exam", this will launch the SEB.

4. Accept Permissions (if prompted)

Exam Pre-flight

The pre-flight page connects you to the proctoring service and shares your webcam, microphone and screen with the proctor to ensure a secure testing environment.

1. Select the correct Camera and Microphone in the Device Settings. Then click on "Next" to proceed to the rules.

2. Click on "I have read and agree with the Exam Rules and Policies" and then proceed to "Launch Exam" to move to the proctor screen.

3. Follow the proctor's instructions.

Once you are in the proctor screen, you will be asked to display a valid, government-issued ID, and to scan your room.

Room Scan Requirement During Check-In

Purpose: To ensure exam integrity by verifying that the testing environment is secure and free of unauthorized materials.

Procedure -
After ID verification, the proctor must instruct the test taker to complete a 360-degree scan of the room.
This scan must include:
  1. A full view of the desk or surface where the exam will be taken.
  2. A clear view of the area underneath that surface.
Warning
The proctor may not release the exam until this step has been completed in full.

Technical Requirements
An external camera is required if the test taker is using a desktop computer with a built-in monitor camera. Integrated cameras alone are not sufficient to complete the room scan.
If the test taker cannot provide a proper room scan, they will not be permitted to proceed with the exam.

Idea
Laptops are good examples of machines that have an integrated camera and can successfully produce a room scan as you can move the laptop around. Bigger screens are harder to turn around completely and would be a good example of when an external camera is needed.
